North Carolina Board Certified Family Law Specialist

Susan was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York. While living in the Hudson Valley, Susan spent many weekends visiting Boston, Massachusetts and fell in love with the city and its surroundings.
She received her BS in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Finance from Boston University School of Management. After completing her undergraduate education, Susan went on to serve as Controller for Greater Boston Management and Capital Trust, a hard-money asset based lender specializing in investment property bridge loans in the Boston area. In her 8 years in Boston, Susan also participated with the Train to End Stroke program as a participant and volunteer and completed 4 full and 4 half marathons while raising over $35,000 for stroke research and education.
Susan moved to North Carolina in 2008 to pursue her JD at Wake Forest University. While in law school, Susan served as a research assistant for Professor J. Wilson Parker and assisted in drafting the book, Ignorance is NO Defense: A College Student’s Guide to North Carolina Law. She also volunteered for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) helping low-income families file their returns and served local businesses in the Community Law and Business Clinic.
After graduating law school and passing the bar, Susan decided to sit for the CPA exam. In 2012, she successfully completed the four parts of the CPA exam on her first try. While studying for the CPA, Susan began a solo practice serving low and middle income families in need of legal services, specifically in the area of family law.
In February 2013, Susan moved her practice to Elliot Morgan Parsonage in hopes of reaching a broader base of families in need of legal services. In April 2014, Susan joined the law firm of Tash & Kurtz, PLLC where she served as an associate attorney to Jon Kurtz and Elise Morgan Whitley. Susan's entire practice is dedicated to family law.
After sitting for and passing the North Carolina Family Law Specialist exam, Susan became a board certified specialist in Family Law in November 2017. Effective January 2018, Susan became a partner with the law firm of Tash & Kurtz. Tash & Kurtz is undergoing exciting changes in the Spring of 2018 with a move to the new office location at One Salem Tower on the edge of Old Salem and a name change to Kurtz Evans Whitley Guy & Simos, PLLC. With five, board-certified, family law specialists as partners, Kurtz Evans is the prominent family law firm in the Triad.
When she is not at work, Susan enjoys spending time with her husband, her stepdaughter and their three dogs. She also loves cooking, skiing, volunteering with her stepdaughter’s school and girl scout troop and keeping up with friends, old and new.
